Voeltzkow’s Chameleon

scientific name: Furcifer voeltzkowi

Last seen: 1913 in Madagascar

Years lost: 106

Very little is known about the Voeltzkow’s Chameleon, which is from northwest Madagascar, the hottest “hotspot” for lost chameleons. Two other lost chameleon species—the Toothed Leaf Chameleon (Brookesia denata) and Chamaeleon grandidieri—are known from the same area and a targeted expedition could rediscover any of the three. This species’ habitat likely includes Madagascar’s largest remaining mangrove forests, which are home to a biodiverse community of wildlife.
